World Earth Day - 22nd April 2020
Today marks the 50th world Earth day but that does World Earth day mean to us this year?
World Earth day 2019 spread the common theme of plastic pollution awareness which encourages the work to together to change the way plastic is viewed and plastic waste is handled, through strategic planning, communication, consumer awareness campaigns, raising business awareness, documentary films, education, clean-up campaigns, scientific research, entrepreneurial innovation, legislation, and sustainability.
The messages about what plastic pollution is ding to our planet and how it is effecting climate changes inspired to change the way plastic is viewed and plastic waste is handled, through strategic planning, communication, consumer awareness campaigns, raising business awareness, documentary films, education, clean-up campaigns, scientific research, entrepreneurial innovation, legislation, and sustainability. The popular theme had the global population following each discussion about plastic waste with sayings such as "save the turtles". As the turtles where just one of the species that are affected personally by people's consumption of plastic waste.
This year’s theme
The theme for Earth Day 2020 is climate action. The enormous challenge — but also the vast opportunities — of action on climate change have distinguished the issue as the most pressing topic. With the current Covid-19 situation being prominent in the minds of all globally and the lockdown enforcement that has occurred around the world the positive effects on the environment have already improved dramatically. With less traffic on the roads and in the air. Less wastage in public areas and humans generally being more health conscious and consuming more plant-based produce.
The photograph below shows the positive effect lockdown measures have had on the city of Wuhan china since the population there isolated just a little after Chinese New Year on January 25th. The results are impressive to say the least, and all be it that we cannot remain in lockdown forever maybe after seeing these incredible improvement results, we may adopt a better way of living and looking after our environment.
How you can get involved this year:
There are many different guides online now that show you how you can get involved with World Earth day this year. Why not become an advocate of climate change by making a short video explaining what we can do to improve the climate change situation. Maybe get the family involved and show how you take on small actions within your household like recycling waste in order to inspire others to do the same. Maybe if you have a musical talent, write a song or spoken word to highlight what issues will arise in the world if we do not take action.
